Gerol grew up in Pittsfield, attending public schools, Berkshire Community College, and MCLA, where he earned his B.A. in philosophy in 2001. He earned a Master’s degree in 2005 from the Classics Department at the University of Buffalo, and moved back to Williamstown in 2005 to write his PhD dissertation in philosophy. While writing, he began teaching at Mt. Greylock Regional High School, earning his Massachusetts teacher’s certification. He took his doctorate in February of this year. Gerol is currently working with the Philosophy faculty at Williams, the American Philosophical Association and the Squire Foundation to bring philosophy to pre-college education through a high school Ethics Bowl team. He has been an adjunct professor at MCLA in the philosophy department, and teaches Latin, English, and occasionally Greek and Sanskrit at Mt. Greylock Regional High School.
