Resident Directors

Thomas Alexander and Joiel Ray-Alexander
Years of Service: 2007-
The two Resident Directors are a vital part of Greylock ABC. They act as mentors, friends, role models and house parents for the students. They nurture, help discipline and guide each student. They are responsible for creating a homelike environment that is conducive to success in the house and in school. They support and participate in the various activities of the program. Assisted by members of the Board, they maintain a standard of conduct in the ABC House that reflects basic respect for the integrity of each member of the group and concern for the overall welfare of the program in the community.
Thomas Alexander is in his fourth year as the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Coordinator for ALANA and International Student Programs and Services. He too was an ABC student in the 70’s and traveled from the Bronx to attend a summer program at Williams College before going on to prep school at the Gunnery in Washington, Conn. Thomas has over 20 years of administration in higher education and youth services successfully working in service of students, parents, academic departments, student affairs offices, college support services, and community based organizations. Extensive experience in counseling and advising traditional and non-traditional student populations covering pre-admissions, academic, financial aid, personal, social, and career concerns. Additionally, he has 12 years of successful college, high school, AAU and youth coaching.
Joiel (pronounced Joy-L) Ray-Alexander combines over 20 years of professional work in higher education, holding positions as Assistant Vice President, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Director covering enrollment management, community engagement, and school college relations. Joiel has appeared in a variety of media outlets, as a spokesperson and is the host moderator of a live television talk show on the latest issues and trends in public health. The show, is transmitted live nationally to millions of viewers in the medical profession and to public health workers in all 50 states. Rebroadcasts occur nationally via cable outlets and public television throughout the year. In February of 2005, Joiel was recognized with the New York State Governor’s Tribute to African American Leaders of Excellence in State Service, and in April, 2004, Ms. Ray-Alexander received the Visions for Life Award from the Albany Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Thomas and Joiel’s oldest son Taj is in his third year in college majoring in Theology, Education, and Business at Philadelphia Biblical University, their daughter Charis is in her first year at Parsons School of Design and the Eugene Lang School of Liberal Arts in New York City double majoring in Fashion Design and Culture/Cinematography New York, and youngest son Ray attends Mount Greylock High School.
